Nolah Evolution 15" Mattress Video Review

Mattress Construction

As its name suggests, the Nolah Evolution has a high 15'' profile. It's crafted from multiple layers of foam, including a Euro-top, and a robust coil system. These layers work together to enhance comfort and deliver robust support.

The layers of the Nolah Evolution 15''

Cover: Highly breathable soft organic cotton and ArcticTex fibers, which wick away moisture and protect the mattress from dirt and germs.

Euro-topper: 2" of low density poly foam cushioning the body mitigating pressure.

Heat Escape Gusset: 4" of breathable gusset, which envelopes the top perimeter of the bed allowing warm air to get out of the mattress and external fresh and cool air to get it.

Comfort layer: 2'' of elastic AirFoamICE poly foam capable of molding to the shapes and curves of the body delivering pressure relieving bounce. The foam is infused with graphite in order to dissipate excess heat.

Foam Support Layer:2'' high density poly foam supporting sleepers by reducing sinkage.

Transition Layer: 1'' of responsive poly foam designed to adapt to body weight and enable sleepers to move easily throughout the night.

Coil System: 8'' individually encased coils generating lift keeping sleepers stable on the mattress. The coils are divided into three firmness zones delivering targeted support. The coils are thicker around the perimeter intensifying edge support. They're are placed on a hardened recycled plant fiber foundation aimed at supporting them as they compress while increasing the mattress' overall structural integrity.

Encasement: Non-skid fabric to prevent the mattress from sliding on its bed frame. The encasement if fitted with carrying handles for easy repositioning of the mattress.

Feel

The Nolah Evolution's breathable cotton and fiber-based cover and gusset keep the surface of the mattress aerated, cool and dry even after prolonged sleep.

The soft and cushy poly foam in the Euro-topper and the elastic and conforming poly foam in the comfort layer combined with the responsive and more resilient poly foam in the layers below and the springy coils create a dual effect of contouring and supportive bounce. Sleepers enjoy the best of both worlds. On the one hand, the mattress envelops their body giving a cozy feel while, on the other hand, it prevents them from being stuck in bed. This sound balance of contouring and support significantly enhances sleep experience.

Pressure Relief

The availability of the Nolah Evolution in three distinct firmness models stands as a significant advantage ensuring that sleepers of various types and weights can find their ideal match for optimal comfort and support.

Lightweight side sleepers will prefer the medium-soft model. It'll give them the ample contouring they need while promising them sufficient support. The plush Euro-topper will pad their hips and shoulders averting pressure in these sensitive areas. The bounce offered by the elastic poly foam in the comfort layer will further reduce pressure without causing excess sinkage. The more resilient poly foam in the foam support layer and the transition layer together with the coils will lift their back preserving their spine's natural curvature.

Average and heavyweight side sleepers will incline toward a firmer mattress, which is still contouring enough. The Nolah Evolution's medium-firm model will be highly suitable for them. The conforming Euro-topper and comfort layer will provide the pressure relieving comfort they need, while the harder poly foam layers below and the coils will keep their heavier body from sagging too deeply into the mattress and enable them to maintain a healthy position.

Light and average weight back sleepers require a mattress that contours the body yet provides sufficient stability throughout the night. The Evolution's medium-firm model is ideal for them. Its plush Euro-topper and comfort layer will help in evenly distributing pressure along the spine, offering relief to muscles and joints from daily discomforts. The coils' zoned support gives a softer sensation at the bed's head and foot, while remaining firmer in the middle. This design elevates the lumbar area, making sure sleepers' back is kept properly aligned.

Back sleepers heavier than 250 pounds will get along well with the Evolution's firm model as it can sufficiently support their more massive body. Lying on the softer models, they will plunge too deeply into the mattress suffering from discomfort and pain.

Some lightweight stomach sleepers will like the Evolution's medium-soft model. They'll benefit from its cushy feel especially in the area under their rib cage. However most of these sleepers as well as the heavier ones weighing up to 250 pounds will choose the sturdier medium-firm model. This model will better support their abdomen averting over sagging. At the same time, they'll get sufficient cushioning to prevent pressure buildup.

The Evolution's firm model is the most suitable for plus-size stomach sleepers. Such sleepers will need a mattress robust enough to keep their waistline elevated so as to avoid sinking excessively into the bed.

Motion Isolation

The designers of the Nolah Evolution have put a lot of effort into increasing the mattress' capacity for isolating motion. The coils are individually encased so they move independently from one another without causing too much vibrations. The poly foam-based transition layer above them further reduces the kinetic energy generated the moment these coils compress.

Nolah Evolution's review of motion isolation

Having said that, the poly foam in the Euro-topper, despite being soft and cushy, is more responsive than memory foam and can absorb sleepers' movement less effectively. The elastic poly foam in the comfort layer generates bounce, which comes at the expanse of motion isolation. All in all, the Evolutions' performs mediocrely when it comes to motion isolation. To be more precise, most sleepers will enjoy quiet nights lying on the mattress. However, those who tend to wake up every time their partner tosses and turn may have a problem.

Repositioning

The Evolution's firmer model allows for greater ease of movement compared to the medium-firm model, which, in turn, enables easier repositioning than the medium-soft model. Yet generally speaking, sleepers won't have to exert too much effort maneuvering on the surface of the mattress regardless of its firmness level. The poly foam in the Euro-topper and comfort layer is more responsive than contouring and despite providing improved pressure relief, it doesn't cause excess sinkage. In addition, the hardened poly foam layers below and the 8'' coils help to enable a sleeper's mobility on the mattress. This helps position the Evolution as a perfect mattress for couples engaging in intimate activity as they'll be able to change their positions while conserving energy.

Edge Support

The Nolah Evolution's exterior is highly stable on account of the bouncy and resilient poly foam in both the foam support layer and the transition layer and the robust 8'' coils. As mentioned above, the coils around the edges have lower gauge and are, therefore, strengthened allowing sleepers to lie away from the center and still feel secure. These sleepers will benefit from a larger sleep surface.

Heat Retention

Temperature regulation is one of the Nolah Evolution's strong points, making it one of the ideal mattresses with effective cooling features. The breathable cotton and ArcticTex fibers in its cover and the gusset placed around its upper perimeter provides excellent sweat-wicking, especially in humid areas. The graphite infused in the comfort layer's poly foam acts as a thermal conductor, efficiently drawing heat away from the body and dissipating it. The coils, on their part, facilitate air circulation aiding in the cooling process.

Frame and Foundation

The Nolah Evolution is compatible with most of the foundations, bed frames and adjustable bases sold on the market on condition that they're adequately supportive. Going into specifics, any platform must have no less than 5 to 6 legs for Queen or larger size mattresses. If a slat bad is used, the gap between the slats mustn't exceed 5''.

Nolah manufactures its own bed platforms. These include the Nolah Platform Base, the Serenity Upholstered Bed Frame, the Adjustable Base, the Adjustable Base with Headboard and the Smart Adjustable Base.

The Smart Adjustable Base is the most advanced of all the platforms. It's characterized by a robust steel structure and it's easy to assemble. It features a head and foot tilt including different adjustments for the left and right side for the Split King mattress, voice control and wireless remote, preset positions like a zero-gravity and anti-snoring, wall-glide technology, under-bed lighting and USB charging ports. The base is shipped for free and is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Our Mattress Reviewer's Comment

This Plank Firm mattress was gifted to a real family, in return for photos, videos, and a personal account. You have seen the media, and now here is how they experienced the mattress, in their own words:

We wanted the Nolah Evolution mattress for our guest room, which mostly gets used by family members that come stay with us during the summer months. Thus far, those that have stayed in our guest room are jealous that our guest bed sleeps cooler and is more contouring than the mattress they have at home.

So, if you never want your guests to leave, then get yourself the Nolah Evolution mattress.

Like all of Nolah's mattresses, the Evolution is manufactured in the United States promising you the best quality.

How do I set up the Nolah Evolution 15''?

The Evolution will arrive at your doorstep sealed in plastic, rolled and compressed in a box. Carry the box to your bedroom (if you ordered a big size mattress, you may need another person to help you), unpack the mattress and position it on its foundation. Unroll it and carefully remove the plastic seal to let it expand. After a couple of hours, the mattress will reach its full size and will be ready for you.

Does the Nolah Evolution 15'' have to be off-gassed?

The moment you unpack and unroll the mattress, its foam will emit gas containing volatile organic compounds. The concentration of these compounds in the gas is very low as the mattress is CertiPUR-US certified. In addition, the gas is non-toxic. You may notice a faint odor, which will disperse in a day or two. It's highly recommended keeping your room window open to expedite off-gassing.

No, the bottom layers of the mattress consist of steel coils and hardened recycled plant fiber. These layers aren't suitable for sleep.
