Mattress Construction

The Leesa Legend has 7 layers which include soft and firm foam to provide sleepers with a pleasant melting-into-the-bed sensation without creating too much sinkage. The mattress also contains two sets of coils for better support and bounciness.

The layers of the Leesa Legend Mattress

Cover Layer: Soft, breathable and hypoallergenic organic cotton, anti-bacterial merino wool and fiber manufactured from recycled bottles.

Comfort Layer: This layer consists of perforated poly foam which makes the mattress bouncy and enables easy movement. The poly foam is aerated to lower heat retention helping sleepers cool their body.

Recovery Layer : Contouring memory foam to alleviate body pressure.

Zoned Support Layer: 1.5'' Micro-coils located at the head and foot of the mattress with poly foam in between them. The coils improve bounciness and prevent pressure from accumulating in the upper back and shoulders. The poly foam supports the hips and helps side and back sleepers maintain good spinal alignment.

Transition Layer: made of firmer poly foam to separate the upper foam-based layers from the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer: 6'' Pocketed coils which function as the mattress' support layer providing it with stability and durability. The coils also give sleepers a bouncy feel and improve their mobility.

Base Layer: 1'' of hardened poly foam providing a solid foundation for all the mattress' layers.

Feel

The soft poly-foam in the comfort layer and the memory foam in the recovery layer give sleepers a nice cushioning sensation as well as some bounciness, while the firmer poly foam in the transition layer and the coils beneath provide sleeper with stability. This creates proper balance between sinkage and support, so you don't exactly feel like you're floating on top of the mattress, nor do you feel like you are being cradled within it.

Pressure Relief

The Leesa Legend provides good pressure relief for light, average and even heavyweight back sleepers. The memory foam allows adequate sinking which generates comfort while the poly foam in the transition layer and the coils in the lower layers give sleepers the necessary lumbar support to prevent back pains.

Side sleepers mostly need pressure relief in the hips and shoulders and this is where the Leesa Legends does a wonderful job for people who weigh up to 250 pounds. The micro-coils generate extra support for the lower back, the pelvis and areas below the neck. The contouring foam in the comfort and recovery layers balances the effect of the coils and prevents the accumulation of too much pressure.

Stomach sleepers will find the Leesa Legend comfortable and supportive enough as long as their weight doesn't exceed 250 pounds. Heavier sleepers may sink too much and, thus, feel pressure rising in the lumbar area.

Motion Isolation

Even though the the Leesa Legend has two layers of coils which generate quite a lot of bounciness, its ability to isolate motion is satisfactory thanks to the soft upper layers. Put differently, small movements of your sleep partner throughout the night shouldn't disturb you much.

The downside is that over time the mattress' two layers of coils may generate some squeaky noise if you and your sleep partner move too aggressively.

Repositioning

The bounciness created by the coils in the mattress enables easy movement all across the mattress, making sleepers feel nimble and swift. This is a big upside for more intimate moments.

Edge Support

The two layers of coil significantly strengthen the mattress' perimeter allowing you to sleep on the edge and keep stable. In addition, getting off bed doesn't require too much effort.

Heat Retention

The breathable cover layer and the ventilated poly foam in the comfort layer enable respiration evaporation and dissipate heat. The memory foam creates sinkage which may increase heat retention a little, but the coils underneath facilitate free flow of air and help the mattress get cooler. All in all, hot sleeper will feel quite comfortable on the Leesa Legend.

Frame & Foundation

The Leesa Legend is compatible with any type as foundation as long as it's solid enough and flat. The company offers its Leesa Foundation at prices of $224-$359 depending on the mattress size. You can also opt for the Leesa Platform Bed. It's more expensive with minimum and maximum prices of $359 and $629 respectively.

Other foundations you can use comprise a solid box, a Bunkie board on a traditional box spring or a slatted base. In any case, you can contact the company and they'll answer your questions and provide you with assistance regarding the best foundation for your mattress.
