Mattress Construction

The Luxe mattress is made of a combination of cooling phase change materials, non-allergenic gel memory foam and latex-like quick-response foam, all geared towards making the most supportive and plush cooling mattress.

The seven layers of the GhostBed Luxe

Layer 1: A 0.5" plush and smooth cover made with phase-change material that's very cool to the touch.

Layer 2: A 1" layer of gel memory foam that's quilted right into the cover gives the mattress an extra layer of softness.

Layer 3: An additional layer of breathable fiber serves as the bottom half of the cover layer.

Layer 4: A thin sheet of phase change material exclusive to Ghostbed that serves to keep the entire core of the mattress cool is adhered to the foam layer beneath it

Layer 5: A 2" layer of soft and slow-responding gel memory foam.

Layer 6: A 2" layer of latex-like quick-responding foam.

Layer 7: A 7.5" layer of durable high-density foam that serves as the base of the Luxe mattress.

Feel

While the cover of the Luxe mattress has a distinct medium-soft feel, I would say that the mattress overall has a medium feel unless you're not heavy enough to sink into it and feel is mildly more dense foam layers. The mattress also has slightly deeper-than-average cushioning depth, so you'll feel hugged by it but not completely engulfed.

While the 6th layer serves to give the mattress some slight bounciness, it is overpowered by the very slow-responding gel memory foam layer above it. The mattress ends up not being bouncy at all, and even being fairly slow to respond to your shifts and movements. This is a boon for those who prefer more of that memory foam feel, but not so much for those that don't.

Pressure Relief

The GhostBed Luxe has fantastic pressure point relief qualities, as it is quite pliable, contouring and supportive due to its layers of memory foam.

What I do find surprising about the Luxe is how supportive it is for stomach sleepers, as most mattresses with such level of firmness tend to have too much sinkage and cause front sleepers to feel suffocated. If you weigh less than 200 lbs., you shouldn't have any issue sleeping on your stomach, and you should feel comfortable on your back and side even if you weigh upwards of 250 lbs.

Motion Isolation

The Luxe has great motion isolation, mainly due to its soft and pliable cover that's basically stuffed with memory foam. You won't be able to jump up and down on it without waking your partner, but you'll definitely be able to move on top of it with your partner even noticing.

Repositioning

While it's not too much of an issue to reposition on the Luxe, it sure isn't effortless. The mattress has a lot of sink and is slow responding, which makes repositioning harder. The cover is also quite slippery, but that's really not an issue since, well, bed sheets exist.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses aren't known for having good edge support, and the GhostBed Luxe is no different. While the edges of the bed don't easily compress under the weight of the average sleeper, you won't feel fully supported sleeping on the sides of the bed.

Heat Retention

This is, by far, the strongest quality of the GhostBed Luxe mattress. Usually, when a person is looking for a cooling mattress, they will look for a mattress with some air in it, such as a layer of coils or innerspring. Memory foam mattresses don't tend to be a good fit for hot sleepers due to this, but boy does the Luxe prove to be the exception that proves the rule. The inclusion of phase change materials causes the mattress to stay cold to the touch and to not warm up while contouring your shape. The Luxe not only efficiently dissipates your body heat, but actively cools you.

Frame & Foundation

The GhostBed Luxe follows industry standards, and so can fit on your existing foundation (and with your existing fitted sheets). However, if you lack a suitable foundation for the mattress, you can purchase one along with your mattress.

You have the option for an All-in-One solution — an all-metal bed frame and box spring replacement in one that's covered with soft grey fabric for a high-end look. You can either use it as a box foundation or attach to it metal legs with adjustable height that can reach 9". it costs $369-$758 (depending on its size) before any discounts.

The Luxe is also compatible with adjustable bases, and you can purchase one from the GhostBed online store for $1,499-$2,998 (depending on its size) before discounts. The GhostBed Adjustable Base features wireless remote control, dual-side USB ports, 15 quiet massage modes and soft, glowing under-bed LED lights.

Additional Details

The GhostBed Luxe is one of the cheapest high-quality mattresses you can purchase online, in large part to how generous GhostBed is with their discounts. You can get up to 40% off your mattress and any other accessories at most times of the year, and since their prices are already below average, this becomes an excellent choice for the more frugal among us.

Shipping & Delivery

GhostBed ships their products all over the United States, for free. The mattress usually arrives within 5 days of being purchased, which is incredibly fast when compared with most other online mattress companies.

GhostBed also offers White Glove Delivery, which means that your mattress will be delivered by professionals straight to your bedroom and even set up by them. They will even remove your old mattress if asked (along with any packaging materials), though you are supposed to make room for the delivery - they will not move furniture just to carry your mattress to its designated room.

Once the delivery team has received all your products from GhostBed, they will contact you again to schedule the best day and time for your delivery. If you ordered any other GhostBed products (pillows, sheets, protectors, etc.), those will ship directly to you via FedEx.

For some locations, an order must be specially made, which is only possible by getting in touch with GhostBed directly via email. This is only relevant to those living in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Canada and Mexico. The email necessary for making such orders is sleep@ghostbed.com.

Returns & Warranty

The GhostBed Luxe can be returned after 30 days of trying it out, but before 101 days have elapsed since receiving it. There's no fee for returning it during this trial period, and you get a full refund on it if you do so.

Since GhostBed delivers mattresses incredibly quickly, orders cannot be changed or canceled once placed. You should make sure that all the details you fill in with GhostBed are 100% accurate. If you ordered your GhostBed mattress through a third party vendor, then the return conditions are that of the third party vendor and not GhostBed.

The GhostBed Luxe mattress comes with a 25 year warranty. During the first 10 years of the mattress' life, GhostBed will provide a replacement mattress at the cost of only shipping and handling fees. From year 11 onward, GhostBed may repair the mattress at a handling cost to the original owner, or replace the mattress at a prorated charge to the original owner plus transportation costs. If the mattress is replaced, the prorated replacement charge will depend on when the mattress is replaced, starting at 50% of the original purchase price and increasing by 5% per year in years 12-15, 4% per year in years 16 – 20, and 1% per year in years 21-25 of the prorated period.

In order to be eligible for the warranties there are certain conditions that must be met. For example, misuse and abuse void the warranty altogether, as does using the mattress without a suitable foundation. GhostBed also offers an extended warranty on its products, but it is somewhat unnecessary due to how generous its standard warranty is.

An Up-Close Look at The GhostBed Luxe

The Bottom Line

While most stomach sleepers will find the Luxe quite comfortable, strict stomach sleepers who are not lightweight should not consider it as their first choice. But, if you're not very heavy, sleep hot and prefer to lay on your back, side, or to sleep in a combination of positions, then this mattress will feel like it was designed especially for you. If you have the funds for it, keep it high on your list.
