GhostBed Classic mattress review

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Great value for money
  • Suits all sleeping positions
  • Supports most body types
  • Perfect for combination sleepers and nightime activities

Cons

  • Doesn't have many qualities that help it stand out
  • Not the ideal choice for strict side or stomach sleepers

Mattress Construction

The GhostBed Classic is a full foam mattress made of 4 layers of latex, memory foam and high-density foam, the combination of which helps create a comfortable medium-firm feel and brings out all the strengths of a memory foam mattress while offsetting the negatives.

The four foam layers of the GhostBed Classic

Cover: The very soft and breathable top of the bed has a cover that is made out of a blend of viscose and polyester.

Layer 1: A 1.5" layer of aerated latex foam. The foam gives the mattress plenty of bounce and responsiveness. This makes it very easy to move in and out of the bed, as well as move around the bed. The aerated latex also allows the mattress to remain cool, which is great for people who generally sleep hot.

Layer 2: The second "Contour" layer is made completely out of memory foam injected with cooling gel, allowing for even more heat dispersion. The memory foam gives the mattress a deep contouring feel. This contouring layer is great for pressure relief around the hips, shoulders and lumbar region.

Layer 3: At the base of the mattress there is a 7.5" high-density poly foam. The base layer is incredibly sturdy and overall functions as the supporting foundation for both layers above it, as well as the sleeper. This thick base layer also makes the mattress feel much firmer than it would without it.

Feel

Due to the strategic combination and placement of its layers, the GhostBed Classic has a medium-firm feel with quite a bit of responsiveness, making it so you feel like you're sleeping on top of the mattress instead of inside it, like you would with other memory foam mattresses.

Pressure Relief

The GhostBed Classic provides a lot of relief for those sleeping on their back. The bed has sufficient amounts of contouring, which is the hugging effect memory foam mattresses have. It also provides adequate support while you're on your side and stomach as long as you' have a fairly average build.

Strict side sleepers, especially light ones, may want to opt for a softer bed so their shoulders are more aligned. Strict stomach sleepers, especially heavy ones, might prefer a mattress that is firmer for the same reason.

Motion Isolation

The Ghostbed Classic provides quite a bit of motion isolation, but it's far from its strongest suit. When sleeping with a partner, chances are you won't notice them unless they are extremely restless.

Repositioning

The GhostBed Classic has excellent ease of repositioning thanks to how responsive its top latex layer is. This makes this mattress perfect for anyone who changes positions a lot during the night, or uses the bed for more things than just sleeping.

Edge Support

While not the strongest quality of this mattress, the GhostBed Classic has a surprising amount of support around its edges. It may not be specifically reinforced to allow for even more edge support like most hybrid mattresses are nowadays, but you'll still not feel like you're about to fall if you sleep on its edge, unless you weigh over 250 lbs.

Heat Retention

Due to its top layer, the GhostBed Classic doesn't fully conform to your body, allowing more of your body's surface area to breath. It's also specifically designed with heat retention in mind, with two of its three foam layers being altered to provide for more heat dissipation.

Overall, this mattress is quite suitable for people who tend to sleep hot, though it's still not as suitable as a hybrid mattress inflated with air.

Frame & Foundation

The GhostBed Classic is 11" tall, which is the industry average for mattresses, so it’ll most likely fit your existing frame or foundation (and your fitted sheets won’t be a problem, either). The mattress also works well with adjustable bases, since it's fully made of pliable foam.

However, if you lack a suitable foundation for the mattress, you can purchase one along with your mattress. You have the option for an all-in-one solution — an all-metal bed frame and box spring replacement in one. It's height is customizable and it costs $369-$758 (depending on its size) before any discounts. You also have the option of an adjustable base for $1,399 before discounts. It features wireless remote control, dual-side USB ports, 15 quiet massage modes and soft, glowing under-bed LED lights. Considering its price, this is an absolute steal, comparatively.

Additional Details

The GhostBed Classic is one of the cheapest high-quality mattresses you can purchase online, in large part to how generous GhostBed is with their discounts. You can get up to 40% off your mattress and any other accessories at most times of the year, and since their prices are already below average, this becomes an excellent choice for the more frugal among us.

Shipping & Delivery

GhostBed ships their products all over the United States, for free. The mattress usually arrives within less than a week of being purchased.

GhostBed offers White Glove Delivery. Once you’ve placed your order, they will ship your items via their delivery company, and you'll receive an email from the delivery team to confirm your order. Once the delivery team has received all your products from GhostBed, they will contact you again to schedule the best day and time for your delivery. If you ordered any other GhostBed products (pillows, sheets, protectors, etc.), those will ship directly to you via FedEx.

Upon arrival, the delivery team will unbox and set up your GhostBed mattress (and foundation, if you bought one) and, if need be, remove and dispose of your old mattress along with any packaging materials

For some locations, an order must be specially made, which is only possible by getting in touch with GhostBed directly via email. This is only relevant to those living in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Canada and Mexico. The email necessary for making such orders is sleep@ghostbed.com.

Returns & Warranty

After purchasing the GhostBed Classic, you have a 101 nights to return the mattress. You may only issue a return after 30 days of trying out the mattress. This is an industry standard, and a prerequisite for the return, because it is recommended to properly break in your mattress in to try it out, and to let your body slowly adjust to its feel.

GhostBed delivers mattresses incredibly quickly, but because of this, orders cannot be changed or canceled once placed. You ought to ensure that all the details you fill in with GhostBed are 100% accurate. If you ordered your GhostBed mattress through a third party vendor, then the return conditions are that of the third party vendor and not GhostBed.

GhostBed mattresses come with a 20 year warranty managed by Nature's Sleep, a company that has issued warranties in the mattress industry for decades. During the first 10 years of the mattress' life, GhostBed will provide a replacement mattress at the cost of only shipping and handling fees.

After the 11th year until the 20th year, the warranty only covers 50% of the total cost. In order to be eligible for the warranties there are certain conditions that must be met. For example, misuse and abuse void the warranty altogether, as does using the mattress without a suitable foundation.

An Up-Close Look at The GhostBed

The delivery time of GhostBed is also unmatched in the industry and their prices are extremely competitive. If you're a combination or back sleeper with an active sex life and you want your mattress now and for cheap, there are almost no better options for you than the GhostBed Classic.
