Mattress Construction

The combination of hardened high density-foam and pocketed steel coils on the one hand and soft memory foam and bouncy Titanflex foam on the other hand help the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Firm maintain a fine balance of body contouring and firm support vital for heavyweight sleepers.

The layers of the Brooklyn Bedding Titan

Cover: The Titan Firm's cover is made of polyester quilted with 1'' of gel-infused memory foam. The Polyester makes the top of the mattress durable; the foam adds comfort and assists in alleviating body pressure.

Polyester lacks breathability and so tends to retain heat. To keep your body cool, you can ask the company to sew an additional layer made of a phase change molecule (PCM) fabric with an increased capacity for discharging excess heat. This addition comes with an extra cost of $100.

Comfort Layer: 2" of elastic Tianflex comfort foam giving the mattress ample bounciness countering to softer memory foam in the cover and preventing sleepers from over-sinking. The Titanflex foam also dissipates heat keeping the mattress cool.

Support Layer: 6'' of 961 individually encased Titancalliber coils, which provide heavyweight sleepers with enough lift necessary for keeping their spine properly aligned.

Base Layer: 2'' of high-density foam supporting the coils above an adding durability to the mattress as a whole.

Feel

Sleeping on the Titan Firm, you'll experience a pleasant melting sensation provided by the memory foam on the surface of the mattress. But as much as it's pleasant, it's limited since the amount of soft foam is small, and right beneath it there is harder and more bouncy Titanflex foam followed by coils. They give the feel of buoyancy and firmness heavyweight sleepers require so much.

Pressure Relief

Back sleepers will like the Titan. The soft foam on its surface together with the coils provide the right blend of pressure relieving body responsiveness and spinal support for light, average and heavyweight sleepers.

Side sleepers who weigh less than 250 pounds may find the Titan Firm to be, well, too firm, and to lack sufficient contouring. They may suffer from pressure in the hips and shoulders that may lead to back and neck pain.

On the contrary, side sleepers whose weight exceeds 250 pounds will sink just enough to feel comfortable without suffering from excessive pressure. The bounciness provided by the Titanflex foam and coils will sooth their muscles enabling them a good night sleep.

Stomach sleepers of all weights will get all the firmness they need to curb the accumulation of pressure in the lower abdomen and lumbar region of the spine.

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with coils tend to generate some motion across the surface, and the Titan Firm is not different in this regard. On the bright side, its coils are individually encased so they don't transfer too much motion when they're compressed. In addition the memory foam in the most upper layer absorbs some of the kinetic energy created by sleepers' movements. As a whole, you usually won't feel your partner's movements unless he/she is a restless sleeper who moves frantically and ceaselessly throughout the night.

Repositioning

The Titan Firm performs well when it comes to ease of movement. Its firmness, which prevents too much sinkage, enables sleepers — including those who are overweight — to move without too much effort on its surface.

Edge Support

The firmness of the Titan, maintained by its coils and hardened foam at the bottom layer, keeps its perimeter stable. Sleepers won't experience sagging and will, therefore, feel fully secure on the edges. This will allow them to utilize the entire surface of the mattress with no need to move towards the center.

Heat retention

The Titan Firm is designed to help keep sleepers cool. The gel-infused memory foam in the cover dissipates heat. The coils increase airflow and enable effective moisture wicking. If you choose to add the PCM fabric to the cover, you'll improve the mattress' ability to regulate temperature.

Frame and Foundation

The Titan works great on most foundation types. It's recommended using a non-flexible box spring or a platform bed frame with slats which are not flexible as well. The slats shouldn't be more than 3'' apart.

Brooklyn Bedding offers you its own foundations which maximize center support for all types of mattresses. The Super Duty High Rise Platform can support up to 1,500 pounds of evenly distributed weight. Its price starts at $129 for a Twin size mattress and ends at $219 for a California King size.

The Ascension Bi-Fold Foundation has the traditional look and feel of a box spring. Its prices range from $229 for a Twin size to $329 for a California King size.

Lastly, the Ready-to-Assemble Box is a portable foundation which also has the traditional look and feel of a box spring. For a Twin mattress, you'll have to pay $249. The most expensive model for a California King size costs $369.

The Titan is also compatible with any type of an adjustable base. Brooklyn bedding offers its Electric Adjustable Base with 2 quiet motors which independently control the head and foot of the bed. It costs $599.

The Ascension Luxe Adjustable Power Base is characterized by an elegant, ergonomic design and comes with a wireless remote control for customized comfort and support. It has preset positions for TV viewing, zero gravity, lounge and anti-snoring postures. Two USB charging ports make it possible to recharge the system during bedtime. You can purchase it at a price of $799.

The Ascension Ultra Adjustable Power base offers the same features you'll find in the Luxe Adjustable Power Base plus some extras, such as Android and Apple App support. It'll cost you $1,349.

For your information, all these bases are compatible with a Queen size Titan only.
